The ultimate objective of DocumentandO Museu IberoamericaNO Working Group (DOMINO) is to contribute to the ICOM DOCUMENTATION mission by conducting a thorough diagnosis of the state of museum documentation in the Ibero – American region. This includes:<\/p>\n
In 2021, the DOMINO Working Group of ICOM DOCUMENTATION proposed different actions to learn about the reality of documentation practice within the region\u2019s museums. A survey was carried out between August 2022 and March 2022, which received 138 responses. The result was the study Documentation in the Museums of Ibero-America<\/a>.<\/p>\n Espa\u00f1ol \u2013 Enlace al documento<\/a> \u2013 Registro en el archivo de ICOM<\/a> The Working Group originated at the Annual Conference of the International Committee for Documentation (former CIDOC) held in Crete, 2018. During the conference, two key observations were made: firstly, that the work of ICOM DOCUMENTATION was primarily carried out in English, with only some translations available in French and Spanish. Secondly, It was noted that the Ibero-American museum community had little engagement with the Committee (which is also reflected in a smaller membership from the region compared to European countries). Therefore, the following were identified:<\/p>\n 1. To disseminate the advancements and tools developed in ICOM DOCUMENTATION to the Spanish and Portuguese speaking community.<\/p>\n 2. To serve as a linguistic bridge to facilitate the exchange of specialized knowledge, thereby enriching the international community.<\/p>\n The group was formed by professionals from the region who support the harmonization of collection documentation through the implementation of standards and best practices. Furthermore, it serves as a means to give voice to the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking museum community regarding the specific documentation situation in the region.
